July 22, 2021 Meeting
(Zone E–Monterey, San Benito, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Ventura)
Communities of Interest Public Input Meeting – 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. daily or upon conclusion of business.

The California Citizens Redistricting Commission (CRC) has begun its second redistricting cycle. They are hosting statewide input meeting to hear from community members like you about your community.

While local governments are moving at different speeds on redistricting, the state CRC is moving ahead now! Make sure they hear from you so they can respect the boundaries of your community when drawing lines for our congressional districts, State Senate districts, and State Assembly districts.

There are public hearings scheduled throughout the summer.

Each California resident who signs up will be given 3 minutes to share their comment. We created a template to help you give public comment in the redistricting process – access this template here.

Sharing your “community of interest” testimony at a redistricting hearing — either at the state level or the local level — is a powerful way of shaping your community’s district maps for the next decade to come. It is critical that your voice is heard during this process. To help you get engaged, we’ve created a hub of redistricting resources, here: www.commoncause.org/localredistricting2021/.

During the meeting you will be asked to describe your community. Here are ways you could describe your community —

  • Begin by identifying your home county or city.
  • Mention the street names and significant locations in your neighborhood to help identify the parameters of your community.
  • Identify your community’s shared interests.
  • Share which nearby neighborhoods that your community is similar to, or different from.
  • Share what makes your community special.

Your input is vital to the success of the redistricting process. Please share this email with your friends, colleagues, and family members to encourage them to participate in this once-in-a-decade process.
